Baby Grand at Norwich Arts Centre last nightThird Goathoven gig at NAC last night, this time as the Goathoven shanty 3 feat. Long John Bowers and Bubba Catfish. Also playing were Baby Grand, who you can see above, who did great stuff with little noise making devices.
We did a cover of
Robert Wyatt's Sea Song (sounded roughly like this
recording from a rehearsal), which we were pretty pleased with. We all enjoyed it, though it got a fairly luke warm reception. And having spent 3 days getting to the point where I at least felt comfortable enough with my singing to go and do it in front of people, it seems the vocals were practically inaudible. Oh well.
Was the first gig we've done which we planned and rehearsed for more than 10 minutes - hopefully a sign of things to come. I think Holly in the picture above might have recorded it, so will try and hunt it out and maybe post it here.
What was a good night was slightly marred by my efforts in the shower after I eventually got home about 4 am, pretty drunk. Nick had recommended turning on the shower in the en suite wet room in my temporary halls of residence room and slumping on the floor in the hot water. Apparently this is what he did when he lived here, whenever he was drunk. I was drunk, and cold, so gave it a go.
It was very good, and on the whole I think was he right to recommend it. I just kind of wish he'd mentioned that you need to be careful not to sit on the drain bit, because after 20 odd minutes of lolling about on the floor of the shower, I noticed I was sitting in a definite pool of water, and that it was a kind of lake, and was about a centimetre deep, and stretched from the floor under my bed where a load of my stuff is stored in cardboard boxes, across to the desk, past the bathroom door and out into the corridor. In the middle of it was a fizzing table lamp minus the table.
No shocks, and it mostly seems to have dried up, but I've spent the day feeling very guilty about it...
